Turning day for Sri Lankan Cricket

Posted: Thursday, October 20, 2005 in Sri Lanka

As many people say ten years ago a day like this was the Turning day for Sri Lankan Cricket. In 1995 we beat strong West Indies in the Sharjah final to win our first one-day series involving more than two teams. Aravinda de Silva caressed a 31-ball 50 and Muttiah Muralitharan took 3 for 31 to wrap up a comfortable 50-run win
After that win four months later Sri Lanka went into the world cup as underdogs and won the cup. The confidence came from that Sharjah final was the secret to our success.
After the world cup win Sri Lankan team recognized as one of the best one day teams in the world and currently world No 2 .
Its amazing how 1 mach can become the root of the future.
